Blog

Hello readers and welcome to my first blog post on my official website.

This author journey is a learning curve every single day and I have made and will make a million mistakes and mis-steps but it is fun and I am enjoying it all.

Writing my first book Red Flags & Broken Promises (which I refer to as RFBP or RFB1) was a hobby I decided to partake in and it just grew from there. I did not set out to publish the book or be an author but I am so grateful that I took the step to publish and I am eternally grateful for everyone who has purchased, read and enjoyed the story.

I did not want to publish under my own name as I liked the idea of being anonymous, I therefore decided to incorporate my parents into the process as they are my biggest fans outside of my daughter. J is for my mother as her first name begins with J and Thomas is for my father whose given name is Thomas. I often use favourite names and names of friends and family members in my stories, however my stories are all fiction and are not based on real events, although real events do offer inspiration.

I have new ideas every single day for stories so whether this stays a hobby or becomes a full time job, I think writing stories is something I will be doing for a very long time.

I am currently 3/4 of the way through writing Red Flags & Broken Hearts (RFBH or RFB2) and I am looking forward to getting an Alpha reader team together and sending them the first draft. I will be recruiting for Alpha and Beta readers soon which is exciting and nerve wracking.

I don't have a huge budget to pay for marketing, proofreading and editing so this will never be a highly polished production.

My Mum is my proofreader and editor and I create my covers and social media posts myself which takes a lot longer than I ever imagined.

Every day is a school day though and it's fun to learn new things.

If you follow me on socials then please like and share as much as you are comfortable with as it helps with my engagement and will hopefully introduce more readers to my books.

Thank you for reading, for engaging and for taking the time. It's all very much appreciated.

Love J. Thomas

JUNE 13th 2024  - Writing update

I am struggling...

My health has sucked this last few weeks and between pain and fatigue I have barely written anything.

I had hoped to have RFBH out to alpha readers in June but it is looking more likely to be July as I am still finishing the end of the story and then It needs to be edited.

I was hoping to have the book published in August but I am going to push the date to September and give myself some grace.

My first book seemed so much easier to write but I think I didn't put as much pressure on myself and it was more of a hobby at that time.

Now I want to take my writing more seriously and it almost feels like it is automatically harder to write.

I need to change that mindset as I love it so much.

Fingers crossed my health will pick up and I will be more focused and get RFBH out to my alpha team in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Much Love

J. Thomas
